LAWN MOWING:

A healthy, manicured lawn looks fantastic, but let’s be honest considering commitments to family, work, & friends finding time in your busy schedule for lawn mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing can be a stressful chore at worse and a time-consuming hassle at best. Who has the time? Well not to sound like an ole cliche´ but we do & thankfully we love what we do.

We offer scheduled weekly and bi-weekly mowing services. Once your lawn care needs are determined, and agreed upon, your property will be added to our schedule. We will service your lawn routinely, i.e., same day & approximately the same time each week, we say approximate time since we utilize a 3 hour ± window to account for unforeseen circumstances.

Additionally, as a reminder, you will receive a text message the night before services are to be performed. All our mowing services, unless declined by the Client, include mowing, trimming around trees, flowerbeds, and the perimeter of the cut lawn and bi-weekly edging of quoted hard surfaces. Additionally, a blower will be utilized to remove grass clippings from quoted hard surfaces.

RECOMMENDED CUT HEIGHTS

Most Michigan lawns contain a combination of Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, and perennial ryegrass. The recommended post cut heights for Michigan lawns are listed below.

KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS

The recommended height of Kentucky bluegrass, after cutting during the growing season, (spring and fall) is between 2 ½” & 3” tall. When Kentucky bluegrass enters its quasi-dormancy period in hot weather (mid through late summer), mowing height should be adjusted to between 3” & 3 ½” tall.

TALL FESCUE

The recommended height of tall fescue, after cutting during the growing season, (spring and fall) is between 2” & 3” tall. When Tall fescue enters its quasi-dormancy period in hot weather (mid through late summer) & or in heavily shaded areas, mowing height should be adjusted to between 2 ½” & 3 ½” tall.

PERENNIAL RYEGRASS

The recommended height of perennial ryegrass, after cutting during the growing season, (spring and fall) is between 1 ½” & 2 ½” tall. When perennial ryegrass enters its quasi-dormancy period in hot weather (mid through late summer), mowing height should be adjusted to between 2 ½” & 3” tall.

Overall Recommendation: Maintaining a 3” to 3.5” overall grass height throughout season will promote a healthy robust rooting system. This establishes a grub-tolerant lawn because of the larger root mass. Additionally maintaining this height shades the soil surface thereby providing broadleaf weed & crabgrass control & a reduction of watering requirements.

Generally accepted lawn care guidelines for maintaining healthy sustainable lawn advises that no more than one-third of the height of the grass be removed in a single cutting.

Weeding & Mulching

Pulling weeds is not my least favorite lawn care task, raking leaves is, but it is definitely number two on my list. Nothing spoils the appearance of a property like overgrown and or poorly mulched beds around flowers, shrubs & trees.

Weeds will be removed and disposed of on a predetermined schedule by the Client, the Client may adjust this schedule at any time to a more or less frequent routine.

Mulching of flowerbeds & around trees is typically conducted on an annual basis (spring). At the Clients request mulch will be dispersed as per the Clients specifications i.e., type, color, and depth. Additionally, a quote can be provided for herbicide and or landscape fabric installation.

Hedge Trimming

The period for trimming flowering, non-flowering, evergreen hedges, and shrubs is dependent on several factors i.e., season, species, rainfall (or lack thereof), health, condition, and age.

Healthy Non-flowering and evergreen hedges typically require trimming ~ every 6-8 weeks during the warmer months and less frequently during the cooler months.

Healthy Spring flowering hedges and shrubs should be trimmed after they have bloomed, summer flowering hedges and shrubs should be trimmed in the spring and or winter.

For unhealthy hedges and shrubs, a customized plan of care and trimming may be developed to return the plant to an aesthetically appealing condition. If disease of the hedge or shrub is determined or if sections have died off or previously removed preventing appropriate shaping of the plant, removal and replanting may be the best option.

To establish healthy growth and desired shape, new hedges and flowering shrubs should be trimmed early and often.

Seasonal Clean Ups

As I said previously raking leaves is by far my least favorite lawn care task. Thank God I do not have to rake leaves. TSE lawn care utilizes a three (3) part process for leaf removal.

  1. All leaves and debris are blown from flowerbeds and the perimeter of included structures to an area accessible to our equipment.
  2. Lawn mowers are utilized to mulch the leaves.
  3. Vacuum equipment is employed to remove the leaves.

Also included in a cleanup, unless declined by the Client, would include “dead heading” of Client indicated vegetation (fall) and the removal of small debris i.e., twigs and sticks. Large branches can be removed for an additional fee.

The extent of seasonal cleanups is dictated by the Client & the level / timing of the prior season services. Spring and fall cleanups are generally quite similar, the most significant difference being fall “dead heading” of vegetation.
